February 23rd, 2009 by Admin

Psoriasis affects at least 7.5 Million Americans. Although there are current remedies for this condition, there are still who need medication. There is now new hope, as scientists are testing a new drug called ISA247 that seems top be effective from the mild to the severe case of psoriasis.

“After an industry-sponsored Phase III trial study, Kim Papp, M.D., of Probity Medical Research and colleagues, reported in the April 19 issue of The Lancet that the calcineurin inhibitor ISA247 significantly reduced the extent of psoriases when compared to placebo during two of the three tested doses. The Lancet medical journal also reported that during the trial study, treatment using the new drug resulted in 75 percent success in treating the affected area. The new drug blocks cell signals that have been linked to over-productivity of the immune system.”

While the world is waiting for the finalized cure, the best that you can do is eat right and take vitamins daily.

Moisturizers promote tumor growth?

February 23rd, 2009 by Admin

There’s been a study stating that there were some moisturizers and cream that help promote growth in experimental lab mice.

“‘We really don’t know what ingredients in these creams are doing that,’ Conney said. ‘There is a need to have the various companies test their creams to see whether or not there is a problem.’ Conney believes that companies can remove the effect by modifying their products. He also added, “I am sure there are creams on the market that do not have tumorigenic activities and some of them may have anti-tumorigenic activity.’”

Although it hasn’t been obsreved what it may mean for the human population, it is better to be safe and get educated regarding skin cancer and get into prevention as soon as possible.

What Happens To Your Insurance When You Leave Your Job

February 11th, 2009 by Admin

By Julian Slowe

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), a law created in 1986, gives workers (and members of their family) who lose their health insurance benefits the right continue their group health insurance for a limited period of time under circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in hours, transition between jobs, divorce, adoption and death.

Generally, the employee pays up to 102% of the premium cost for the same policy; this is still usually less expensive than buying an individual insurance policy.

There are three basic aspects for qualifying for COBRA: the qualifying event, the insurance plan coverage and the qualified person.

Each aspect is taken into consideration when applying for COBRA and you must elect to either apply for COBRA or waive your rights to COBRA within 14 days after a qualifying event.

You must also have been in the group insurance plan during your employment to be eligible. Although there are exceptions, generally you may continue to pay your own premiums to keep COBRA coverage intact for up to 18 months.

Companies who have fewer than 20 employees, State or Federal employers or employee organizations may not offer COBRA coverage.

Check with your health insurance administrator to see if you may qualify. You may also have this information readily available in your group health insurance policy or in your company handbook.

Although it may be expensive, the cost of being able to keep your group insurance coverage rate may be well worth it.
